Charles Drake completed his M.D. at The University of Western Ontario, and has made his contributions from his clinical base in London, Ontario. He interned at Toronto General Hospital before returning to Western to instruct in physiology. He later continued to study physiology at Yale University. He returned again to London as a surgical resident at Victoria Hospital. A strong interest in neurosurgery led Drake to tour the clinics of five European countries before he returned to Canada as a fellow in neuropathology at the Banting Institute in Toronto.

Again he returned to London, as Chief of Neurosurgery at Victoria Hospital from 1953 to 1959. It was here that Drake perfected, documented and taught surgical techniques on the repair of ruptured brain aneurysms for which he gained world-wide fame. Drake became chairman of the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at Western, and Chief of Neurosurgery at University Hospital. He played a key role in the founding of the John P. Robarts Research Institute, and was himself honoured by the creation of the Siebens-Drake Research Institute. Dr. Charles George Drake passed away September 15, 1998.
