Frequently Asked Questions about the Laureate Nomination and Selection Processes
If you don't find the answers to your questions below, please contact the CMHF office at 519-488-2003 or cmhf@cdnmedhall.org:
- Do you have to be a Canadian citizen to nominate someone?
- No. The nominee must be a Canadian citizen but can be nominated by anyone.
- Do you have to be a Canadian citizen to become a laureate?
- Yes. The nominee must be a Canadian citizen in order to be considered for induction by the Selection Committee.
- Are six people always inducted?
- The Selection Committee has the option of selecting less than six people for each induction.
- Do you consider candidates posthumously?
- Yes. However, there must always be three living inductees for each induction.
- Who selects the inductees?
- Inductees are selected by a committee of prominent health and medical professionals from across Canada. The committee acts at arm's length from the CMHF Board of Directors.
- How will I know if my nomination has been successful?
- Within five days of the Selection Committee meeting, a committee member or designate notifies each nominee (or next-of-kin). All nominators will receive written notification of the outcome of the selection process regardless of whether their nominee has been selected. A media announcement occurs within one month of the Selection Committee's final decision.
- Do I have to re-submit my nomination if I would like my candidate to be reconsidered for the future inductions?
- All nominations remain active and eligible for three consecutive inductions. Following that period, nominations must be re-submitted for consideration.
- How do I find out if someone has already been nominated before?
- Please contact the CMHF office at 519-488-2003 or cmhf@cdnmedhall.org.
