The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life Scholarship Fund

The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, in conjunction with Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life, established a fund that supports two scholarships each year for high school students hoping to pursue an education in health or medical sciences at a Canadian university.

The value of the scholarship is $1000 per year toward a four-year undergraduate degree and can be applied to any accredited Canadian university.

The scholarship is administered by the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), and the selection of scholarship winners is made by a committee of university representatives chosen by the AFMC.

Guidelines

Scholarship recipients are chosen based on academic excellence, financial need, and a passion for pursuing an education and career in health sciences.

In addition to completing the application form, applicants must provide the following:

  • An official transcript of the previous two years of schooling (confirming an 85% or greater average)
  • Three letters of reference - one from your school, one personal and one from your community
  • A completed student loan form from your province (if applicable)
  • A two page essay describing the applicant’s future plans

Applications must be received by June 15th to be considered for a scholarship for the next academic year. Recipients will be notified by July 31st.

Recipients may receive the award annually for up to four years, or until the scholar obtains his/her first degree, whichever occurs first. If the recipient is enrolled in a three-year degree program, an application may be made to apply the fourth year of the scholarship to the first year of a professional degree program in health or medical sciences.

Students must maintain a minimum average of 80% in order for the scholarship to continue.
